Research

It is part of our mission to:

  • Conceive and conduct research projects related to Permian Basin oil and gas development.

  • Provide Technology Transfer activities and events for the Permian Basin petroleum community.

  • Act as an effective catalyst for bringing new oil and gas projects to the Permian Basin.

To this end, each month, we will attempt to highlight recent research of interest to independent operators, geoscientists and engineers.  We will begin by reprinting articles written for DOE publications that you might not be familiar with.  If you have a "favorite" study or article that you would like to see gain a wider audience, e-mail us at trentham_r@utpb.edu.

This months article is a summary of the important understandings gained as a result of Laguna Petroleum's DOE sponsored study of the Foster-South Cowden Field in Ector County.  Originally the project was designed to demonstrate that integrated studies by geologist, geophysicists and engineers could cost effectively add reserves, preserve access to existing well bores and extend the life of an old field.  To date, 190,000 BO of incremental reserves have been added, and some surprising relationships within the reservoir defined.
